iPad Summit - Early Years ~ Going Mobile ~ 3 Model Learning Activities ~ Self-Directed Projects

Make and Take something back to your kids! Pick any one of the following for projects (or make up one of your own!) and create someting you can do with your students on Monday. If you've got time you might even be able to do more than one of these. We'll build in a little time towards the end of the day for everyone to share what they've made for their kids. Who knew learning could be so much fun! (I bet you did. ;-))

Make a Book Trailer

Yours will be an illustrative example so your students can do the same in class.

Possible Apps: Fotobabble, Animoto, Storyrobe

Pick a story, like Cinderella. Get some people to help you act out key scenes.
Take a picture of each key scene; 3 minimum, 5 max.
Stitch the pictures together and summarize the story in 30-60 seconds max.

.
.
Make a Socrative Space Race Quiz

Possible Apps: Student Clicker - Socrative and Teacher Clicker - Socrative

You'll need a laptop to access Socrative online or use the Teacher's app.
Also download the student app; although you can always use a web browser too.

We'll play the Space Race together.
Then you can make something similar for your kids to do next week.

NB: Socrative was intended to be used for formative rather than summative assessment.
This is worth reading.

.
Make an iMovie Learning Trailer

App: iMovie
........iMovie app.png

Use the iMovie app to make a video trailer documenting what people are doing in this room right now: Learning.

Use these same skills next week in your class to become a learning documentarian for your class.
Then, have different kids do the same at least once a week.
This would be a good time to start creating your class YouTube channel and/or blog. ;-)

.
Create a Learning Mobile Scavenger Hunt

Suggested App: Book Creator

Just like we did this morning. Here's my master doc for you to download and remix.
Create your own challenges for your students.
Center the challenges around a theme like: Math, Geography, Community, the garden ... you get the idea.
